This year’s celebration highlights the voices of female students, faculty, and staff, showcasing the diverse experiences that make the university vibrant and unique.
Taylor Bryant: Champion of Communication
Position: Associate Professor and Faculty Advisor for Bluestone
As an associate professor, Taylor Bryant emphasizes the importance of generational responsibility. She believes that progress is not merely a personal achievement but a collective legacy that women must carry forward. “While speaking out and asking hard questions can feel heavy, those moments matter because they reduce the burden for the women who come after us,” she asserts.
The rewarding aspects of her role come from witnessing students evolve into confident professionals. “Watching students move from fearing creative freedom to owning their professional voice—this reinvigorates my commitment to education,” Taylor reflects. She draws inspiration from her grandmother, Sally Jenkins, whose life embodied people-first leadership, shaping Taylor’s understanding of influence beyond titles or formal education.
Elizabeth Nelson: A Voice for Future Generations

For nursing major Elizabeth Nelson, her mother’s strength and sacrifice have profoundly shaped her ambitions. As an immigrant, her mom built a life of resilience, which instilled compassion in Elizabeth. “The example she’s set is the foundation of the compassion I hope to bring to nursing,” Elizabeth shares.
Her aspirations extend beyond her education. She aims to empower young Hispanic women in nursing, sharing her journey as a first-generation college student. “I want them to know their presence, voices, and stories belong in healthcare,” she asserts. After graduating, she plans to focus on patient-centered care, ensuring that health disparities are addressed and that every patient feels respected.
Nicole Nichols: Building Strong Bonds
Position: Head Cheerleading Coach and Part-Time Faculty
Department: College of Education’s Department of Special Education
Nicole Nichols believes in the potential of women to achieve greatness. “We are capable of great things,” she emphasizes, noting the importance of surrounding oneself with ambitious individuals. The lasting relationships she builds with her athletes are the most rewarding aspects of her job.
Nicole finds inspiration from the women around her, especially her athletes and coaching staff, who push her to grow in all facets of her life—from coaching to motherhood. Her commitment to empowering these athletes mirrors her belief in mentorship and collaboration.
Sydne Tolbert: Breaking Barriers in Sports
Major/Minor: Health and Community Wellness (Occupational Therapy)
Involvement: Women’s Basketball Team
For Sydne Tolbert, inspiration comes from her mother, Tiffany, and sister, SaToya, who have instilled in her the confidence to embrace her identity as a proud Black woman. “They’ve given me a great perspective on faith and confidence,” she expresses.
Her goal as a student-athlete is to inspire other women in sports. “Celebrate your wins, but know there is always another step you can take,” she encourages. Sydne is proud of showcasing her talents at a Division I level, a dream come true. Post-graduation, she aims to become an occupational therapist and open a clinic that caters to underserved communities, furthering access to care for children of color.
