The Federation of Africa University Sports, FASU Rugby 7s Championship kicked off at KCB Sports Club, featuring 18 thrilling matches on Saturday.
In a day marked by intense competition and electrifying performances, Daystar University and Uganda Christian University (UCU) dominated their matches in Pool A, both finishing the day unbeaten.
FASU Rugby 7s Pool A
Daystar University set the tone early with a remarkable performance, claiming a 27-5 victory over Maseno University. Their confidence continued to build as they held UCU to a 12-12 draw in a thrilling second match that showcased both teams’ skills and determination. UCU, having earlier dispatched Maseno 26-7, was eager to prove they were a force to be reckoned with.

In Pool B, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) displayed remarkable prowess, remaining unbeaten throughout their matches. JKUAT started strong with a tense 5-5 draw against Kenyatta University before following up with a 12-7 win against Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU). They sealed their success for the day with a dominating 28-5 performance against Kabarak University.
In a particularly competitive group, ZEGU managed to defeat Kabarak 26-7 but faced challenges against JKUAT and narrowly edged out Kenyatta University 7-5.

Moving on to Pool C, Busitema University took advantage of their early matches, securing victories over Kisii University and Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). However, their momentum took a hit as they faced off against USIU-Africa and faced a tough loss in their final group encounter.
As the group stage concluded, it was clear that the knockout stage matches scheduled for Sunday would be highly anticipated, with teams eager to prove themselves and advance further in the competition.
