In a remarkable display of corporate social responsibility and commitment to community development, Bank Muscat recently celebrated 20 winning teams in the 14th edition of their “Green Sports” program. This prestigious event underscored the bank’s role as a leader in financial services in Oman while highlighting its dedication to the youth. Held in Muscat under the patronage of Sayyid Sulaiman bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Chairman of the Oman Football Association (OFA), the event drew executives from Bank Muscat and representatives from the winning sports teams, all coming together to acknowledge the hard work and achievements of local talent.
Impact and Reach of the Green Sports Program
Since its inception in 2012, the Green Sports program has demonstrated significant positive impact, benefiting 223 teams and attracting over 77,000 members across Oman. This program is not merely about sports; it represents Bank Muscat’s strategic initiative to enhance the lives of the youth through sporting endeavors while fostering a sustainable environment. The initiative focuses on improving sporting facilities—such as greening football pitches, enabling water desalination, and enhancing lighting—facilitating a better play environment for aspiring young athletes.
Empowering Youth Through Sports
The essence of the Green Sports program lies in its ability to empower youth, fostering their talents within both sporting and cultural realms. Each year, Bank Muscat sees highly enthusiastic participation from sports teams across various Governorates. In the most recent edition, more than 90 teams vied for recognition, a testament to the program’s growing popularity and success among Omani youth eager to enhance their skills and facilities.

During the event, Hamza bin Abbas al Ajmi, Deputy General Manager of Credit at Bank Muscat, emphasized the pivotal role local sports teams play in empowering talent and supporting the aspirations of Omani youth. He articulated how the Green Sports program has evolved over 14 years, significantly contributing to social responsibility and sustainability initiatives. His heartfelt congratulations to the winning teams highlighted the program’s influence in establishing a solid infrastructure for organized sports and community events.

Eng Khalid bin Said al Zaabi, the Team Head of Al Shati Sports Cultural Team from Al Suwaiq, expressed immense gratitude towards Bank Muscat. Said bin Khalfan al Jahdhami, Team Head of Al Qadisiyah Sports Team from Al Mudhaibi, echoed similar sentiments when discussing the positive changes brought about by the lighting project for their fields. He pointed out that this enhancement not only upgrades local infrastructure but also transforms the community, creating opportunities for social activities and games. Al Jahdhami affirmed their commitment to maintaining these collaborative efforts to ensure lasting benefits.

In the lighting system category, recipients included prestigious teams such as the Izki Jernan Sports Team, Al Shati Sports Cultural Team, Al Ahly Sports Cultural Team, and many others. Additionally, teams were recognized in the natural turf category, including Al Mazzarra Sports Team and Al Zamalek Sports Team, among others. The diversity of winners showcased the broad reach and impact of the Green Sports initiative throughout the country.
