Celebrating Leadership and Community: The Central West Virginia Republican Women’s Annual Meeting
On November 17, the Central West Virginia Republican Women (CWVRW) held its annual meeting, a significant event that not only celebrated achievements but also ushered in new leadership for the 2026-27 term. The gathering was marked by awards, heartfelt tributes, and the recognition of volunteers, underscoring the club’s dedication to its mission and to the community.
Honoring Community Leaders
The theme for this year’s awards ceremony was “Shining Stars of Upshur County,” aptly chosen to recognize the hard work and impact of dedicated members. LeVera Gillum, current president of the CWVRW, shared a compelling account of the club’s inception and growth, highlighting its importance in local political and community activities.
During the event, Gillum presented a special certificate to Carlene Wojhan, who served as the club’s first president back in 2004. This acknowledgment not only celebrated Wojhan’s contributions but also illustrated the club’s rich history of leadership.
Achievements and Recognitions
Under Gillum’s leadership, the CWVRW has garnered two prestigious diamond awards, recognizing excellence in various domains such as membership development, campaign activities, and community relations. This year’s achievement was particularly meaningful for Gillum, who vividly recalled attending the National Federation of Republican Women Convention in Orlando, Florida. Walking the national stage to accept the diamond award was a profound moment in her career, symbolizing the club’s commitment and achievements.
In the past year alone, CWVRW members volunteered over 6,000 hours on various “Caring for America” projects and community initiatives. This commitment highlights the club’s active role in supporting and uplifting the local community while engaging in political outreach.
Leadership Transition and Tributes
As the meeting progressed, Delegate Carl “Robbie” Martin took the stage to honor Gillum’s long-standing service. His acknowledgment of her as a “rare leader” who goes above and beyond resonated with many attendees. Martin’s tribute emphasized not just Gillum’s dedication but the spirit of camaraderie that defines the CWVRW.
The evening also featured the presentation of several key awards, recognizing exceptional contributions within the club. Martin was awarded the CWVRW Man of the Year, while Kristie Tenney, a second-term Upshur County Commissioner, received the Woman of the Year Award. Additionally, Frank and Judy Fato were honored as Volunteers of the Year for their impressive contribution of 1,596 hours of campaign work.
New Officers for the Upcoming Term
The climax of the evening was the election of new officers for the 2026-27 term. The club will embrace a dynamic leadership team, including:
- President: Nina Monroe
- First Vice President: Dr. Brenda Wells
- Second Vice President: Brenda Wyatt
- Treasurer: Pamela Maxwell, APRN, NHC, FNP-C
- Secretary: Carlene Wojhan
This fresh leadership roster promises to sustain the momentum generated over the past years and to continue the club’s mission of fostering community engagement and Republican ideals in Central West Virginia.
In summary, the annual meeting of the Central West Virginia Republican Women served as a heartening reminder of the club’s influence and the enduring connections among its members. From honoring past leaders to paving the way for future initiatives, the event was a true testament to the spirit of collaboration and dedication that drives the CWVRW forward.
