School of Champions (SOC) Gymnastics Davao Makes an Impact at the 4th LTSA Invitational
The School of Champions (SOC) Gymnastics Davao has made a significant splash in the competitive gymnastics scene, showcasing their talent at the recent 4th LTSA Invitational Gymnastics Games held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. In a remarkable debut, the young club secured an impressive total of 47 gold, 25 silver, and 11 bronze medals, with 19 gymnasts emerging as champions.
A Rising Star in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics
Established barely a year ago, SOC Gymnastics Davao has quickly positioned itself as a formidable force in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics through the Australian Level Program (ALP). Athletes competing at Levels 1 to 3 collectively contributed a remarkable 45 gold and 23 silver medals, while competitors in ALP 5 and 7 added another 10 medals through their outstanding apparatus and overall performances.
Individual All-Around Dominance
One of the standout achievements for SOC gymnasts was their ability to claim podium finishes in the Individual All-Around across every category they entered. This success highlights the depth of talent within the club, where most of the competitors, aged between 5 and 14, were first-time participants facing more experienced rivals. The blend of youthful exuberance and rigorous training resulted in impressive performances that captured the attention of onlookers and competitors alike.
The Vision of Hannah Joy E. Morrison
Hannah Joy E. Morrison, the owner and manager of SOC, expressed immense pride in her athletes’ accomplishments. “Knowing that we just started a few months ago and our students are already developing well, this is really a product of their hard work and our coaches’ dedication,” she remarked. As a teacher by profession, Morrison emphasizes a program that not only focuses on technical skills but also on mental resilience.
She continually reminds her athletes to “train hard, do their best, and enjoy their journey.” Her approach fosters not only skill development but also essential life lessons about perseverance. “When you fall, you get up. Never give up. Win or lose, you are always a champion,” she advocates passionately.
Overcoming Challenges of First-Time Competitors
For many of these young gymnasts, the challenge of competing for the first time can be daunting. Morrison acknowledges the nerves that come with those initial experiences. “They still feel nervous because it’s their first time,” she stated, blending Cebuano with English to connect with her athletes. Beyond gymnastics techniques, SOC focuses on instilling values of discipline, teamwork, and respect, all pivotal in shaping well-rounded individuals.
Outstanding Performers
Among the gymnastics stars at the event, several athletes stood out. Wendy Grace Morrison, Rhuwanna Davie Einsteinium Sendiong, and Eva Kelley each dazzled judges with four gold medals in ALP 2. In a stunning display of talent, Heaven Bree Milloren, Eunize Charity Saludo, Ava Kelley, and Pia Uriel Reserva swept the competition in ALP 3, capturing four golds each. Abigail Morrison also demonstrated her prowess by earning two gold medals in ALP 7.
Further notable achievements came from Noor Aaliyah Hana Deddy Faisal and Savanna Dierendonck, who each claimed two golds and two silvers. Amelia Noelle Bilao and Nika Cielo Magculia matched their success, while Flexie Kate Ibarra secured three golds and one silver. Additionally, Klaudia Cesca Nanali brought home four silvers, and Antoinette Salonga earned a silver and three bronzes in ALP 5.
The Role of Support Systems
Morrison made sure to highlight the integral role parents play in the athletes’ success. “The parents are always there — not just for financial support but also for their time and guidance,” she remarked. The combination of familial backing, skilled coaching, and well-maintained facilities has proven vital in nurturing the athletes’ progress.
Looking Ahead
With a robust competition schedule ahead, SOC Gymnastics plans to build on this momentum. A summer training camp from March to May will focus on refining techniques and preparing gymnasts for higher divisions. “We are leveling up their skills and evaluating them to know what level they are ready for,” Morrison announced.
Having already produced Davao City’s first Batang Pinoy gold medalist last year, Morrison is optimistic about more successes on the horizon. “Our goal is to help bring Davao City to the top. SOC is ready to produce more champions in the coming years,” she affirmed.
In her inspiring advice to the young athletes, she emphasizes the importance of mindset: “Be champions in your heart and mind. If you have the champion mindset, anything is possible.”
With such a strong foundation laid in their inaugural year, the future looks bright for SOC Gymnastics Davao and its dedicated young competitors.
