Honda Vietnam Denies Plans for International Circuit in Tay Ninh

On a recent Friday, Honda Vietnam made headlines by rejecting claims suggesting that Honda Mobilityland Corporation, a subsidiary of Japan’s Honda Motor Co., intends to develop an international circuit in Tay Ninh province. This development was positioned within a broader vision for a sprawling 600-hectare tourism, entertainment, and sports complex.
In an official statement shared on their fan page, Honda Vietnam clarified: “Honda Vietnam has verified this information with Honda Mobilityland, and the information is not true. Honda Mobilityland currently does not have any plans for such a project in Vietnam.”
This surprising announcement caught local media off guard, particularly as a release from Tay Ninh’s local authorities had previously indicated that discussions regarding the proposal had taken place. An article on Tay Ninh Online, linked to the provincial Party Committee, echoed these claims.
A Closer Look at Tay Ninh’s Aspirations
According to a statement from the Tay Ninh administration, Honda Mobilityland representatives had purportedly proposed the project during a meeting with provincial leaders in Tokyo on November 18. This was part of a broader labor, investment, and trade promotion program for the region.
The envisioned complex aims to facilitate year-round events encompassing various activities, from car and motorcycle racing to e-sports and music festivals. Notably, Honda Mobilityland is ambitious in its environmental goals, stating that the project will emphasize emissions reduction, safety standards, job creation, and attracting both domestic and international visitors.
In positioning Tay Ninh as a new hub for regional entertainment and sports, the project draws inspiration from successful models such as the Suzuka Circuit and Mobility Resort Motegi in Japan. These venues have demonstrated their financial viability, attracting millions of visitors annually and generating significant economic impact.
The Economic Potential of the Proposed Complex
The Suzuka Circuit and Mobility Resort Motegi in Japan are not just racing venues; they serve as comprehensive entertainment and tourism hubs. The Suzuka Circuit alone welcomes over 1.6 million visitors each year, while Mobility Resort Motegi attracts roughly one million, collectively contributing around $4.9 billion to Japan’s economy.
Both sites host prestigious international races, including Formula 1 and MotoGP, while also offering various amenities like amusement parks, hotels, and technology centers. This model represents an enticing template for Tay Ninh officials, who are keen on elevating their province’s status in global tourism.
Strategic Infrastructure and Local Support
Deputy Chairman of the Tay Ninh People’s Committee, Pham Tan Hoa, has expressed strong support for the proposal. He emphasized the region’s advantageous transport infrastructure, citing key routes that enhance accessibility for large-scale projects. Notably, Ring Roads 3 and 4, along with the Ho Chi Minh City-Moc Bai Expressway, facilitate transportation within a 20 km radius, making Tay Ninh an appealing destination for international visitors and investors.
He highlighted the potential for leveraging local cultural identity by integrating offerings like cuisine and landscapes—such as Ba Den Mountain and the Dong Thap Muoi region—to create a unique tourism ecosystem. By combining sports, entertainment, and cultural experiences, Tay Ninh hopes to carve out a distinctive niche in the regional tourism landscape.
Next Steps for Development
Following the Tay Ninh delegation’s discussions in Japan, Honda Mobilityland is expected to conduct on-site evaluations to finalize their investment plan. This is an essential step toward realizing the proposed complex.
In a strategic move, Tay Ninh and Long An provinces were merged earlier this year, creating an expanded Tay Ninh region that shares borders with key areas such as Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Ho Chi Minh City, and Cambodia. This merger aims to enhance opportunities for economic collaboration and infrastructure development.
Additionally, the newly formed province boasts multiple international border gates, which could facilitate both trade and tourism, potentially increasing the economic opportunities associated with the proposed entertainment complex.
In the first nine months of 2025, Tay Ninh’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) saw impressive growth, expanding by approximately 9.52%, positioning it as one of the fastest-growing provinces in Southeast Vietnam. This economic momentum further underscores the region’s readiness for significant investment and development projects like the one proposed by Honda Mobilityland.
